Jah ‘have’ removed Onika
THE EDITOR: Soca festivities and Jah Rastafari do not mix. The blasphemers who want people to believe that Onika was singing to Jah; when she sang “All is yours” should be ashamed of themselves, just as the adult who would have wrote the song and gave it to her (I don’t believe she wrote it herself). It is a rude, sex song for an innocent talented and beautiful young lady who started the “season” hustling to make all she can before it ends.
The song didn’t fit someone who wears “locks” that represent something much more than hairstyle. All who want to wear their “locks” only because they believe it has only now become “accepted” should think again and ask themselves if they are worthy of carrying such a serious symbol, the only positive fraternal movement for the black man since the end of the slave trade.
I’m sad and angry about Onika’s death, such a big talent that ended hustling, only because of a season that comes once a year and singing songs that only promotes bump and grind. The powers that be in this country would be happy if the promoters and the media houses, who are in power themselves continue promoting such, it keeps the people at “base”. After all, they know that there are different levels of consciousness.
