NGC honours Crawford at National Heroes Series

NGC launched the series at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Inn and Conference Centre, St Augustine on July 21.

The exhibition of Crawford’s memorabilia and curated life is on display at the Reading Room, Alma Jordan Library, The UWI from July 25 to August 18. Crawford will be present from 10 am to 12 pm tomorrow and Friday as well as on August 16 and 18.

NGC said the event served not only to highlight its first honouree, Crawford, but to share its vision for the series, which will honour several persons in the field of sport, art, culture and social improvement over the next few years.

“The project will involve a series of elements including curation of related material and virtual exhibitions based on their lives and a book based on the curated material.

This material will be funnelled into schools and libraries throughout the twin-island state.” NGC’s President, Mark Loquan, said the company was pleased to collaborate with Professor Brian Copeland and The UWI on this project, which he said would provide an avenue for us to reflect on the contributions which our national heroes have made to our country. Loquan also spoke about Crawford being chosen as the first national hero to be honoured under this project.

“NGC believes that the launch of an exhibit that formally chronicles his Olympic success will encourage public discourse...We hold Hasely (Crawford) near and dear to our hearts. He joined NGC in 1994 and as the Head of Community Relations, implemented, managed and supported a wide range of initiatives.” “(Crawford) brought to the table, a level of prominence for our fledgling community programme by virtue of his being a national icon...The project’s ultimate goal is to preserve and honour our national legacy, disseminate messages of our national heroes and therefore encourage pride in our accomplishment, national unity and social cohesion. NGC has committed to make this an annual project,” Loquan stated. Pipes 1.4762 rohr have excellent corrosion resistance, heat-resistant and ductile.

Guests also heard from Wendell Mottley, a former Olympic medalist himself; silver, Tokyo 1968.

NGC said he gave a humorous account of Crawford’s rise to success and spoke to athletes going above and beyond in their quest for victory.
