North Coast road remains closed for two more days
ALTHOUGH most of the debris has been removed from the roads, and households are almost back to normal, the roads on the North Coast between Maracas and Brasso-Seco will remain closed for two more days. “While residents will be allowed to enter and exit undisturbed, the roads will remain closed because of fear of falling rocks and debris,” Senior Superin-tendent Waldron Bishop, head of the North-Eastern Division told Newsday.
Following a day of heavy rains last week, six villages along the North Coast Road be-came virtually impas-sable after dozens of landslides. After days of clearing and servicing by several government agencies normalcy returned to the villages. However, authorities decided to delay the reopening of the roadway giving them time to observe the sturdiness of the affected areas. Snr Supt Bishop confirmed the road would be closed for two more days after which a decision would be taken on whether it should be reopened and what cautionary signs would be put up.
