Cunupia man snatched from home
A CUNUPIA man was abducted from his Jerningham Junction, Cunupia home around 2 pm yesterday. Reports revealed that around 2.10 pm, Celia George was at her home when two men arrived in a white Nissan B13 Sentra car and enquired about her husband Harricharan Maraj. Maraj, 45, came to the front of the house to see who was asking for him, and it was at this time he was snatched by the two men who dragged him into the car which sped off.
The men then went to the home of one of Maraj’s relatives and snatched his 13-year-old daughter who was subsequently released an hour later. However, up to late last night the whereabouts of Harricharan Maraj was not known. Officers from Cunupia Police Station as well as the Anti-Kidnapping Squad were contacted and they interviewed Maraj’s wife and their teenaged daughter. Police officers carried out searches yesterday in a bid to locate Maraj and told Newsday that no ransom demand had been made.
