Manning: PNM’s most loyal supporters are in Tobago

Prime Minister Patrick Manning declared that the results of Monday’s Tobago House of Assembly (THA) election show that the PNM is the best political party to serve the interests of all citizens of Trinidad and Tobago. Meanwhile, THA Chief Secretary Orville London said Manning was instrumental in the PNM’s victory and slammed all those who charged that “the Prime Minister of TT has no place in Tobago.” Speaking during victory celebrations at the PNM’s Scarborough headquarters on Monday night, the Prime Minister said the results clearly showed that the nation’s future was “best placed in the capable, caring and benevolent hands of the PNM.”

We give you the assurance, people of Tobago, that we would serve you to the best of our ability. Ours is a mission of service and nothing else,” Manning declared. He described the PNM’s 2005 THA campaign as one of the best campaigns the party ever organised and its election machinery worked well. The Prime Minister added that he was particularly pleased that Cynthia Alfred retained her Bacolet/Mt St George seat. Manning had conducted walkabouts in that constituency two days before the election. The Prime Minister added that the PNM’s THA victory was a victory for London’s leadership.

“I have always been of the view that the most loyal supporters of the PNM are in Tobago,” Manning said. London said Manning had given the PNM’s Tobago arm unwavering support over the years and played a key role in Monday’s victory. The Chief Secretary said the levels of cooperation and communication between the THA and central Government would be strengthened and he will insist that all PNM representatives develop a system whereby “they meet every single community at least once a month. “Every single one must understand that they are your servants and understand that they have a responsibility (to you, the people),” he declared.
