POSGH nurses endure abuse

THE EDITOR: Please permit me a space in your newspaper to write about what I was able to witness during my stay at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital for the past two weeks. My heart goes out to the dedicated nurses on Ward 34. These nurses not only have to deal with a serious understaff problem but also with non-functional and non-existent equipment as well as insults from relatives of patients and certain incompetent doctors.

There was this one day in particular where patients were aroused from our sleep to hear a doctor verbally abusing a nurse for standing up for patients’ rights. As far as I am aware, doctors and nurses are part of a team and should work towards one goal and that is to ensure that patients’ health care needs are met. Apparently these foreign doctors do not share the same view and they believe our Health Minister, Mr Rahael is paying them our hard earned tax dollars to mistreat and disrespect our nurses. Is this all in the plan for vision 20/20?
