Godly or Godless

THE EDITOR: I have lived continuously in the United States for about fifteen years and it seems to me that America is moving further and further away from God. Here in Trinidad and Tobago, whenever America sneezes, we tend to catch the cold. Of course, nothing is wrong in learning from others, but we must emulate the good, and throw away the bad. Now, we must remember that America as a nation, was first built and established on godly principles. Introduced by the Quakers, who were Evangelistic missionaries from England. Hence the reason for the words inscribed on their paper and currency “In God we Trust.” America used to send out missionaries to tell the world about God, now the world is sending missionaries to tell America about God instead. Oh! What great spiritual deterioration. How has the mighty fallen! A clear case of being reduced to the proverbial “religious masquerade.” Having a form of godliness but lacking the content and power thereof.

Maybe, they have already crossed a line. I do not know. Nevertheless, America’s transgressions seemed to be mounting steadily with some of the obvious, such as; they have deliberately stopped the national prayer in all schools. They have sought to remove the word “God” from their pledge of allegiance; they fired a chief justice for placing a marble monument of the Ten Commandments in the rotunda of the Alabama Supreme Court; on one is allowed to say the words “Merry Christmas” at Christmas time anymore, but instead is encouraged to say “Happy Holidays.” So, will God Bless America? I say no! It will never happen, until they genuinely repent before God and turn away from their sins, wickedness and evil ways. Until they do, it will be a case of deja vu, meaning the same old thing, business as usual, or to coin a phrase from our own local parlance, “Same old monkey pants.”
