Dancing cop stabbed at Wasa fete

A police officer and a soldier had to seek medical treatment after being stabbed and shot at the annual WASA ‘Wet and Wild’ Carnival fete held at its St Joseph headquarters compound on Friday night. Several other persons were also arrested for robberies, while two stolen cars were recovered. According to report, around 1am PC Kevin Kingston, 26, an off-duty officer attached to the St Joseph Police Station was dancing with his girlfriend when a fight broke out between some men and the police and soldiers present. The men turned on people nearby and started stabbing.

The injured officer was rushed to the Mt Hope Medical Complex where he was treated and discharged. Kingston received seven stabs to his back and injuries to other parts of his body. Two men were arrested and are expected to appear before a Tunapuna magistrate tomorrow. A short while later a soldier had a confrontation with a man inside the fete. The soldier then walked out to the Eastern Main Road in the vicinity of Marie-Jo’s Pub when he was shot in his foot. He too was rushed to the Mt Hope Medical Complex where he is resting in a comfortable position. Six persons were arrested for robberies and will appear in court tomorrow. In an unrelated matter a Tunapuna soldier and a police officer will appear before a Tunapuna magistrate on Monday charged with beating and robbing a civilian.
