NBN leaves indelible mark on our hearts
THE EDITOR: Today (January 14) is a sad day for the people of Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean since the Government has decided to shut down NBN which comprises of four radio stations and two television channels. I just want to say that I and many like myself are truly hurt, for after Friday I don’t know which radio station to tune in to since I am a diehard Radio 100 fan and also a diehard TTT fan.
I have been listening to the station for about 13 years now and I can’t find another station that would facilitate my listening pleasure, since no one can fill the big boots of Deekay Rostant, Sharon Pitt, Allan Diaz, Mark Rougiere, Sharda Ramlogan, Ria Roopchansingh, Debra Maillard and Andre Williams just to name a few. I also had the opportunity of working with Mrs Hazel Ward-Redman and Mr Richard Pierre, Mr Linus Pitt and his staff while doing Christmas concerts with the Valsayn teachers college, and I must reiterate that these people are extremely fantastic and it leaves me to wonder what would become of Scouting for Talent, Mastana Bahar, Twelve and Under, Holly’s Parang band Wagon, Community Dateline, Indian Variety, the Ezone and Holly’s Ballroom Dancing shows which were much enjoyed by everyone.
The Government is leaving a big void in the hearts of all of us and really leaving us in limbo, and their only reason is that NBN is not a profitable entity, yet still you leave the management and make the honest workers suffer by sending them home. Well in my opinion I think that something is definitely wrong with Mr Lenny Saith. TTT and the radio stations are synonymous with Trinidad and Tobago and it is the only medium which promotes local culture, and give locals a chance to be recognised.
I must end by saying that we Trinidadians are hypocrites in the sense that we see something happening like this and we stand idly by and allow it to happen, but it has not hit home as yet, and when it does many of us would have great regrets. Thanks NBN for all that you have done for the promotion and upliftment of local culture in TT. I want you to know that you would be sadly missed and that my heart goes out to you since you have left an indelible mark on Trinidad and Tobago and the world.
