Who will repair the Cathedral’s dial?

THE EDITOR: A useful barometer to gauge the efficiency of a country is the way its public clocks are maintained. This having been said, it is time somebody does something about the dial at the front of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. On the assumption in personification the venerable clock is feminine, she looks lonely and forlorn, silent as death recording the time accurately only twice in a twenty four hour day.

Her two lesser companions, one of which faced north and the other south, were casualties of one of the renovation projects done over the years, which makes her loneliness all the more poignant. Who will step up to the plate, the government awash with petro dollars, the Catholic faithful, some corporate citizen? I can well imagine the serious dent done to British pride if Big Ben were comatose for the same period of time.
