N-ballers off to St Vincent

THE TRINIDAD and Tobago netball team, led by Janelle Barker, left yesterday to compete in the Commonwealth Games qualifying zone tournament in St Vincent. The “Calypso Girls” will be bidding for a place at the Commonwealth Games, scheduled for Melbourne, Australia, next year. Trinidad and Tobago will meet Canada and host side St Vincent in the contest for the final place open to a American zonal team at the Games. The highly fancied Jamaica and Barbados have already qualified for the event by finishing first and second respectively in last year’s Caribbean championships.

Althea Mc Collins is the TT team’s head coach while Roma Noreiga serves as the assistant coach. Martha Archer, president of the Trinidad and Tobago Netball Association, will act as manager. The team is scheduled to return next Monday.
