Jamaica win fourth straight
KINGSTON: Jamaica defeated Guyana by an innings and 67 runs yesterday on the final day of their fourth-round Carib Beer Series regional cricket match at Kensington Park. Jamaica were 410 for six declared while Guyana were dismissed for 191 and 152. The Jamaicans, scoring their fourth straight win in the Carib Beer Series, needed only one ball after lunch to complete victory when rookie fastbowler Dwight Stewart trapped last man Imran Jafferally leg before wicket for four.
Captain Damodar Daesrath was left unbeaten on 21. Jamaica are clear leaders on maximum 48 points from four matches. They defeated the Leeward Islands, the Windward Islands and defending champions Barbados in earlier matches. Guyana, yet to win a match, are on 10 points. For his aggressive unbeaten 100 in the Jamaican innings, wicketkeeper/batsman Carlton Baugh was named “Man-of- the-Match.” Guyana, 78 for five overnight, lost four wickets in the morning session, including Assad Fudadin, who made 55. The left-hander struck four fours and three sixes off 152 deliveries.
Fudadin and Lennox Cush put on 38 for the sixth wicket with steady batting but with the score on 115, Cush tried to hit left-arm spinner Nikita Miller over the infield and was caught by David Bernard for 20. Fudadin followed 15 runs later, brilliantly caught by Danza Hyatt at extra cover off fastbowler Dwight Washington. The experienced Neil McGarrell and Mahendra Nagamootoo both failed to score. It was McGarrell’s second duck of the match. Bowling for Jamaica, medium-pacers Washington and Bernard finished with three wickets each. Stewart took two wickets.
