Wanderers score last ball victory
W CONNECTION Wanderers squeaked past FCB Clarke Road by one wicket as action in the Carib Sunday League cricket series continued yesterday. Theodore Modeste scampered two runs off the last ball of the defending champions allotted 50 overs, to give them the victory at Gilbert Park, California. Clarke Road managed only 122 runs in 49.3 overs with Homchand Pooran scoring 33 and Mahadeo Bodoe 29. But when the champions batted they found runs at a premium before Keshore Lalchan 38 and Sanjeev Gooljar came together in a 56-run eighth-wicket stand, leading to Modeste’s heroics as Wanderers reached 123 for nine wickets.
At Pierre Road, Charlieville, Alescon Comet easily swept aside Merrry Boys by 133 runs. After totalling 236 in 49.3 overs, in which Imran Khan scored 67 including four sixes and four fours, and Travis Dowlin 66 with eight fours in a third wicket partnership of 110 runs, Merry Boys were routed for a paltry 103. Avidesh Samaroo was the main destroyer taking four wickets for 19 runs, while Dinanath Ramnarine took two for 22. At the Queen’s Park Oval, the Parkites drubbed Aranguez by 143 runs. Queen’s Park reached 270 for eight wickets in their 50 overs with Jonathan Augustus hitting a whirlwind 103 including four sixes and six fours in a 116-run third wicket partnership with Petrock Nicholas (45). Replying, Aranguez could manage only 127, with Shakeel Ali taking three for 16, Rishard Harris, two for 32, and Barbados import Vasbert Drakes, two for 10. CLICO Preysal were comfortable winners by 55 runs over Joe Public Munroe Road at Inshan Ali Park. After posting a 159-run total in 47 overs, Preysal bowled out Munroe Road for 104.
