Stop the road carnage
THE EDITOR: This is an open letter to the Prime Minister, the Honourable Patrick manning, the Minister of Works, the Honourable Franklyn Khan and the licencing officers. It is my view that the speed limit of our country is too high and it should be lowered to 80-kph, to prevent more carnage on our roads and highways. Music in all vehicles should be banned and the age limit for obtaining a driving permit should be at least 21 years of age. There should also be more meaningful police patrols along our nation’s roadways.
It is my view that if these measures are put in place our nation’s roads would cease being death traps to the innocent as well as guilty road users. These measures may appear to be harsh to the young people of our nation. However, the families of road victims may agree with me when I say that one road death is one too many. I, myself, am a driver since April 26, 1947 and have been driving quite safely up to the present. Let us all do what is necessary in order to stop the carnage that is happening on our streets because of sheer carelessness, inexperience and poor choices.
