Visitors taste Carnival at Piarco Airport

VISITORS entering the country at Piarco International Airport for Carnival 2005 have been assailed with the sweet sounds of steel pan during performances from some of the country’s accomplished small steel orchestras. The Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago and the Tourism and Industrial Development Company (TIDCO) contracted several bands to provide entertainment to visitors at peak passenger arrival times.

The characters were provided by the Ministry of Culture and the National Carnival Commission (NCC) as part of its promotion of Carnival to foreigners and returning nationals As many as 6,000 visitors enter the country at Piarco on a daily basis in the weeks leading up to Carnival, with the overall passenger rate projected to reach 2.4 million in 2005.
