Comet, PowerGen clash in Sunday League

DEFENDING joint-champions Alescon Comet and PowerGen Sports Club are involved in two key fourth round re-scheduled matches today in the Carib Sunday League. The eight matches were carded for January 23 but heavy rainfall and water-logged grounds forced the National Cricket League officials to re-schedule the matches.

Comet will do battle with Tile It Central Sports in the top of the table Group “A” encounter at Pierre Road Recreation Ground. PowerGen will travel to Wilson Road Recreation Ground where they will be involved in the “Penal Derby” with arch-rivals FCB Clarke Road United in a Group “B” match. Comet and Central Sports are joint leaders in Group “A” alongside Queen’s Park on eight points each. All three clubs won their fifth and sixth round matches last weekend.Comet defeated Defence Force on Saturday and then crushed former champs Ceramic Merry Boys the following day at the Diego Martin Recreation Ground.

Central Sports defeated MerryBoys on Saturday and then walloped the Army-Coast Guard combination on Sunday. QPCC took care of Moosai’s Sports and British American Aranguez on consecutive days. The Parkites will up against Division Two club Las Lomas in this fourth round fixture while BA Aranguez will host Moosai’s Sports in the other Group “A” match. Group “B” leaders W-Connection Wanderers and Clico Preysal will be at separate venues. Wanderers will host Felicity Invaders at Gilbert Park, California while Preysal will travel to Union Hall, San Fernando where they will face Mayo Valley Boys which created a major upset last Sunday by beating PowerGen Sports. Couva Sports will tackle Joe Public Munroe Road in the other Group “B” match at the Couva Junior Secondary ground. All matches are over 50-overs for each team.
