Mystery band performs at Savannah

POTENTIAL Symphony which took Pan Trinbago to court seeking to be included in the finals of the Medium Band category, still appeared at the Queen’s Park Savannah on Saturday night although it lost its application for an injunction. The High Court dismissed the application on Saturday but the band still headed to the Savannah and performed in position number nine. Potential Symphony mysteriously appeared at the end of HCL Valley Harps’ performance, demanding that it be allowed to play.

Without any resistance from police and security officers, the band joyously rushed onto the stage in casual clothing, leaving the judges and audience confused. However, as the band prepared to perform, the judges vacated their seats as they were not informed of the band’s appearance. Potential placed ninth in the semi-finals with Superblue’s “Poom Poom,” but ended one and a half points short of making the finals. Manager of Potential Symphony, Vernon Morancie told Newsday the band filed an injunction last Thursday seeking to be included in the finals, since it believed Parry’s Pan School was in breach of the rules.

Morancie said Parry’s Pan School did not play in the correct order at the semi-finals, and threw off the rest of the judging. “We should have been placed in the finals, but we are here tonight and nothing will stop us from playing,” said Morancie. However, Morancie said although his band was in breach of the court order, it still felt inclined to perform for the people. “On Wednesday we will stand the consequences, but the children should be allowed to play,” said Morancie.
