Repent and Pray

THE EDITOR: The Prime Minister’s call to the nation to repent and pray is a logical one. The bible says “if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.” “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, there is none righteous, no not one.” “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Repent according to Webster’s dictionary means “to regret deeply anything said or done; to change ones’ ways because of contrition,” also to go in the opposite direction.

To pray according to Webster’s dictionary, is to ask earnestly; to say prayers, especially to God; to entreat, implore; to beg for, as he prayed forgiveness. “Prayer (pray) in a solemn address to the Supreme Being; act of praying an earnest entreaty.” We can choose life or death; God says “choose life, and live;” he has given us a free will. Repent and pray means that God gives you the grace not to go back to the things that you  repented of.

God’s solution to wrongdoing and sin is to change human nature to give us the power to live and overcome sin. The Bible says if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things are thus passed away and behold all things are become new. The Christ that is in you is greater than he that is in the world. To as many as receive Christ, to them God gave the power to become sons of God.

When one accepts Christ he is born again, he becomes a new creature in Christ and has the power to become a son of God. The Bible says “walk in the Spirit and not after the flesh he will sin.” This is a battle which will continue until Christ comes and changes our mortal bodies into immortal bodies, like his to be with him forever, even in eternity.
