‘Pros’ could miss Digicel Cup
WORLD Cup qualifying campaigners Trinidad and Tobago could be without most of their foreign-based professionals for the Digicel Caribbean Cup football finals in Barbados later this month. With club commitments hanging over their heads, a plethora of their England-based players are uncertain for the February 20-24 Caribbean Cup Finals. The TT Soca Warriors will open their campaign for an astounding ninth Caribbean Cup title in 12 tournaments when they face Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz on February 20 at the Barbados National Stadium, just outside Bridgetown. And the Warriors will resume preparations as early as today with a training session at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.
Glasgow Rangers defender Marvin Andrews and Wrexham midfielder Carlos Edwards returned to London on Wednesday night while Dundee’s Brent Sancho, Coventry City striker Stern John, Crewe Alexandra goalie Clayton Ince and Portsmouth’s Shaka Hislop are all scheduled out before the weekend. Southampton utility player Kenwyne Jones leaves tomorrow. Among the players called for training today include National Under 20 duo Keon Daniel and Hayden Tinto, while gifted midfielder Arnold Dwarika, now recovered from injury, has also been called up by coach Bertille St Clair. Cuba and hosts Barbados are the other teams contesting the four-team Digicel Cup finals, which will qualify three teams for the CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament in the USA in July.
