Murder victim found in canefield
THE body of a 54-year-old foreman, who was snatched from his Claxton Bay home Ash Wednesday, was found in a canefield at the back of the Chaguanas Police Station with stab wounds to the neck. His murder is the 34th for the year. Reports revealed that Ashford Luckhee was at his Tambu Road, Claxton Bay home, when a group of men gained entry into the house, tied him up and ransacked his home. The men then put Luckhee in his car and sped away. A report was made to the Couva Police Station and officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad were alerted, but a search for the missing man proved futile.
His body was discovered when former Caroni Ltd employees stumbled on Luckhee’s body shortly after 10 am. Initial checks by the DMO revealed several slashes on Luckhee’s neck as well as a chop on his left arm. The body was later identified by his brother Roston Luckhee, who expressed shock and outrage over the killing. Up to late yesterday Luckee’s car had not been recovered. Police investigators believe that Luckhee was kidnapped, robbed and then killed. Cpl Balchan Salick is investigating.
