Ramjass spins out Wanderers
LEG SPINNER Nicholas Ramjass gave his new club Tile It Central Sports a first innings lead over newly-promoted W-Connection Wanderers, who were blown out for 85 in their first innings of the Carib National Cricket League Division One opening round match at Gilbert Park, California yesterday.
After medium pacer Robert Brown knocked over openers William Perkins (0 ) and Loknauth Ramsuchit (17), Ramjass took over and mesmerised the Connection-crew with his guile and captured five wickets for 18 runs from 12.5 overs. Leftarm spinner Devindra Krishna claimed two for 22 from ten overs while Matthew Sinanan prised out the experienced Narine Bidhesi for five runs. Then Martin Crowe (40) and Derwin Christian (21) carried Central Sports to first innings points. In the key match played at Wilson Road, Penal defending champions FCB Clarke Road scored 246 in their first innings against Ceramic Merry Boys.
Leading scorers were Guyanese Homchand Pooran who made 65, former WI youth player Mahadeo Bodoe made 45 and Alan Mahabir was left undefeated on 35. Pooran smashed six fours in his innings and featured in a 57-run second wicket partnership with Sean Siloch (27) and a a 51-run fifth wicket partnership with skipper Bodoe who hit seven fours. Mahabir rallied the lower order with a 43-run seventh partnership with Ryerson Bhagoo (28) and a 25-run tenth wicket stand with Mukesh Persad (9). It was pacer Ryan Best who emerged as the main wicket-taker for Merry Boys with four wickets for 60 runs. Leftarm spinner Ken Hazel ended with three wickets for 38 from 23 overs. Merry Boys reached 48 without loss at the close of play with not out batsmen being Mario Belcon (36) and Leron Lezama (9).
Clico Preysal dismissed PowerGen Sports for 175 with Jason Mohammed and skipper Denzil James contributing 37 each. Discarded Trinidad and Tobago allrounder Shazam Babwah was the leading bowler with four wickets for 39 runs. All matches conclude today.
