Aloes and Cro Cro vexed at Massive Gosine
THE EDITOR: I do not quite understand what all the controversy was about concerning Massive Gosine. His song poked fun at the present government and he interpreted current events from his point of view. For years, seasoned calypsonians such as Sugar Aloes and Cro Cro just to name a few have done the same thing with the former administration. In previous years, their renditions on various calypso competitions and mind you, these songs insulted the UNC, and they even disrespected Mrs Oma Panday. But, Sugar Aloes and Cro Cro said “Massive Gosine” is a sad excuse for an artiste and that he is a racist.” Is he a sad excuse and a racist because he sang about the PNM? I think these PNM fanatics are being hypocritical?
What is amazing though, is that no one seems to be talking out about how disrespectful the audience was. Unless these women who allegedly threw the toilet paper had the ‘runnings,’ it was a preconceived attempt on their part to attack Massive Gosine while on stage. I thought that kind of behaviour was tasteless and rude! To Massive Gosine, please do not be discouraged by this unfortunate incident. I admire your bravery and frankness. You should feel free to express yourself in song just like the other performers do. To Sugar Aloes, Cro Cro and all the other calypsonians who sing/sang about UNC and then get vex when someone sings about PNM, stop this foolishness.
