Rodney Jack on comeback
LONDON: St Vincent and the Grenadines’ international Rodney Jack has resumed full training and should be back in the Oldham Athletic’s first team in the English League One by the end of February. Jack has only started five matches this season and his situation was compromised by a knee injury he picked up while playing for his country during the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers last year.
During his recovery period, Jack also came down with a severe ear and sinus infection, which scuppered his smooth rehabilitation. Oldham physiotherapist Lee Nobes said he hoped that Jack would be fit enough to line up for the Reserves as they travel to Stockport on Wednesday. “He’ll probably be given 45 minutes to an hour to gauge his match fitness,” the physio’s report on the club’s Website said.
“However, he will not be rushed back due to the amount of time he has been sidelined. He’s still applying ice after training to stop the injury swelling. It’s hoped that if he can get another reserve match under his belt then he will be ready to rejoin the senior team.” Jack is likely to be given a run when Oldham’s Reserves play Bury on February 23 so his fitness can be further assessed. The 31-year-old Jack was expected to rejoin training in late December last year following a review of his medication and a period of rest. However, Jack continued to suffer with a weak knee and had been given an injection to solve the problem.
