WICB discuss players’ behaviour
ST JOHN’S: A report carried by a Trinidad and Tobago newspaper surrounding the behaviour of West Indies players on the recent tour of Australia, will be discussed at a West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) directors meeting in Barbados on Sunday. A release from the WICB yesterday said that president Teddy Griffith was also in communication with Digicel over the report, which was written by Richard Nowell, group sponsorship manager of Digicel, but leaked to the Trinidad Guardian.
“The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) is aware of a newspaper report with respect to the recent tour of Australia by the West Indies team for the VB Series,” the release stated. “The President of the WICB is in communication on the matter with the chairman of Digicel, official sponsors of the West Indies team and the principal investor in the development of West Indies cricket.” It added: “The issues surrounding that publication will be among items to be discussed at a previously scheduled meeting of the directors of the WICB on Sunday 20 February in Barbados.”
The WICB directors will also discuss reports from manager Tony Howard, coach Bennett King and the media liaison officer for the VB series, Imran Khan. Other items on the agenda include the financial condition of the WICB and the status of the negotiations with the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) with respect to clause 5 of the Match/Tour Contract. Sponsorship fees and Retainer fees are also down to be looked at.
