Would CJ matter be treated fairly?
THE EDITOR: The level of hypocrisy displayed by this PNM administration is cause for concern and it is difficult to believe what they say. When this regime came into office, one of the first things the PM said was that no one had anything to fear. He reiterated that everyone would be treated fairly. Well that certainly did not apply to Marlene Coudray, Devant Maharaj or the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha. ACP Graham has not escaped unscathed either. They all had to seek redress in the courts.
Another example of PNM hypocrisy is the issue of inciting race in the country. Time and time again this administration has accused the UNC of dividing the country along racial lines. But what about Mr Manning’s referral to Petrotrin as Petrosingh and Mr Valley’s assertion that Mr Panday was removing the names of Afro-Trinidadians from the Army list of recruits, when they were in Opposition?
We also have the matter of talk show hosts who are accused of inflaming racial tensions in the society. On the one hand, the PM accuses East Indian radio stations of being guilty of this practice but on the other hand he goes to Parliament and quotes the Gladiator who is reputed to be one of the chief culprits. So when PM Manning addresses the Senate on the Chief Justice controversy and promises to act fairly in the matter can we really believe him?
