PM’s statement was not long overdue

THE EDITOR: Regarding the Prime Minister’s statement on the matter with the Chief Justice (CJ), Mr Robin Montano in a news report told a reporter that he was happy that the Prime Minister had not yet pressed the button to get the CJ removed, but said that the possibility of him pressing it still exists. This reflects that his concern is not with whether the CJ is wrong or not, but that once the PM pushes the button he is unjust and wrong. In another report Sat Maharaj said that the PM’s statement was long overdue. But if UNC chairman Wade Mark was not so interested in creating political mischief to make the PNM look bad, he as well as other members of the UNC would’ve adopted a different approach rather than going with misinformation.

What if after all is said and done it is not necessary to remove the CJ? Then the public concern and involvement that arose as a result of propaganda of the UNC would have been in vain. Sat is wrong, the PM’s statement was not long overdue, it should never have had cause to be made in the first place, unless it really becomes necessary to remove the CJ. And why did Sat bring up this talk about racial violence? Would he have said the same thing if the CJ was of another ethnic background? What if there is a legitimate case for removing the CJ, would racial violence still follow regardless? Why can’t Hinduism produce more tolerance in its followers? I forgot it is Jesus Christ that said “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you,” Matthew 5:44.

Upon his return to the country Mr Panday said in the press conference held at the airport that he was going to seek a meeting with the PM to find out what’s going on, yet in the same breath he said the Government was offended because they lost court cases against Marlene Coudray, Devant Maharaj and the Maha Sabha. He already held the position that the Government was against the CJ and wanted him out of the way before actually having the meeting with the PM. It is clear who is obsessed with political power and is sleeping with the Devil to get it. Let us be careful to be slow to speak and quick to understand and tolerant in the process.
