Arrears paid to 10,066 teachers
AS of February 14, some 10,066 teachers have received their arrears of increments for the period 1987 to 1995, and 337 more teachers are being processed. In an advertisement in yesterday’s Newsday, the Edu-cation Ministry said it has determined that 1,854 teachers did not qualify for payment, since they are due amounts of less than $2,990, the amount which represents the “buyout” figure. Of the 337 teachers whose arrears are in various stages of processing, 65 are listed as those whose applications are to be audited. Those teachers are expected to receive their monies after the audit is completed.
The worksheets of an additional 97 teachers have been submitted to the National Informa-tion System Centre (NISC) for the preparation of statements, while the statements of 119 teachers have been returned by schools and are awaiting collection at the ministry’s help desk. Liability statements for 41 teachers have returned from the NISC, also for collection at the ministry’s help desk. The liability statements of eight teachers are to be amended by the NISC, and the worksheets of seven teachers have to be audited as at February 14, 2005. The ministry has promised to provide monthly updates on the processing exercise.
