Wanderers wallop Clarke Road

NEWLY-promoted W-Con-nection Wanderers and former champs Ceramic Merry Boys registered outright victories in their Carib National Cricket League Division One second round matches yesterday. The Merry Boys triumph was achieved in easy fashion over homesters Tile It Central Sports at the Presentation College, Chaguanas. But it took the audacity of William Perkins and his 20-year-old Guyanese partner Loknauth Ramsuchit to fashion one of the most incomprehensive and sensational come from behind victories ever witnessed in the NCL.

Set a victory target of 141 off the mandatory 15 overs of the day’s pay, Pekins and Ramsuchit pulverised the reigning Division One champions club FCB Clarke Road United bowlers to all parts of the Gilbert Park. In an astonishing display of brilliant strokeplay, Perkins hammered six massive sixes and four fours off only 38 balls. His innings (79) lasted 50 minutes and during that period he and Ramsuchit featured in 115 for the first wicket partnership off 10 overs. Ramsuchit remained unbeaten 47 and counted one six and six fours off 41 balls. Wanderers massive celebration took place with three overs to spare while Clarke Road players, officials and supporters were shell-shocked by the Perkins-Ramsuchit blitz. Scores in that match were FCB Clarke Road 154 and 128; Wanderers 140 and 141 for 1.
