Wanderers topple Preysal

PROMISING Under-19 player William Perkins (49) and his reliable 20-year-old Guyanese opening partner Looknath Ramsuchit (25) were at the heart of W-Connection Wanderers commanding six-wicket victory over arch-rivals Clico Preysal in their Carib Shield final Group “C” round robin match at Gilbert Park, California yesterday. Having being set a victory target of 120 in 30 overs, the Perkins-Ramsuchit willow-wielding pair went on another exciting batting spree in their attempt to maintain their supremacy over their eastern neighbours. They were off to another lightning start as they were only two days before when they demoralised FCB Clarke Road in their Carib NCL Division One second round encounter. The pair raced to 48 runs in six overs before Ramsuchit was dismissed for 25 (4x4s) off 22 balls.

Perkins tempered his aggression after he lost Brent Lezama (0) and skipper Joel Pamphille (7) in quick succession at 49 and 56. But with the subdued Keno Mason (19), Perkins progressed to 49 with the aid of one six and eight fours off 37 balls before he departed with only nine runs required for victory as Wanderers topped Group “C”. They will meet Group “D” runners-up FCB Clarke Road in the quarter-finals. In another feature match yesterday Clarke whipped Mayo Valley Boys by four wickets at Wilson Road but finished second in their group to PowerGen Sports who thrashed Couva Sports by eight wickets and completed their three-match fixtures unbeaten. Sean Siloch starred for Clarke Road with a topscore of 46 which carried the homesters to 103 for six off 21 overs, in reply to Mayo Valley Boys 100 all out off 22.5 overs.

Siloch had taken two wickets for 21 runs on Tuesday afternoon and copped the “Man of the Match” award. At SyneVillage, Couva Sports were restricted to 87 for 8 off 30 overs by PowerGen Sports on Tuesday. Randy Sobie (3 for 17) and Jason Mohammed (3 for 20) did the damage while Gibran Mohammed (34) and Ahmed Mohammed (36) piloted the “Power Boys” to a comfortable eight-wicket win in 13.5 overs yesterday. Queen’s Park  edged Ceramic MerryBoys by 11 runs in their Group “A” decider at the Queen’s Park Oval. The Parkites made 159 for 9 off 30 overs on Tuesday while Ricardo Paty (2 for 20) and Vasbert Drakes (2 for 28) stifled Merry Boys run chase which was led by Leron Lezama (43), Aneil Kanhai (35) and skipper Lincoln Roberts (29). The Parkites will clash with Tile It Central Sports who had to settle for second spot behind Alescon Comets which emerged victorious yesterday by 52 runs. Comet (Group “B” leaders) will clash with MerryBoys (Group “A” runners-up) in the other quarter-final showdown.
