Students face cricket test

In recognition of the United Nation’s International Year of Physical Education and Sport the PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League in conjunction with the Ministry of Education will be hosting a national schools cricket quiz to mark the occasion. The preliminary round of the quiz is scheduled to take place tomorrow, beginning at 10 am.

Teams will comprise of any four bona fide students from secondary schools throughout the country. In the preliminary round students will be given a written test consisting of multiple choice questions based on West Indies cricket from 1958 when Gary Sobers broke the world record to 2004 when Brian Lara reclaimed it. Special emphasis will be placed on the careers of Sobers and Lara. The top school in each zone will move on to the quarter-finals which will be done on an oral basis.  The semi-finals and final will be aired on television.
 
Venues for the preliminaries are as follows: North Zone — Queen’s Royal College;  East Zone —  El Dorado Secondary School; North East —  North Eastern College; Central Zone —  Carapichaima Senior Comprehensive; South Zone —  San Fernando Secondary; South West —  Siparia Senior Comprehensive; South East —  Princes Town Senior Comprehensive School; Tobago —  Scarborough Secondary School.
