Dance to Royal Music at Santa Rosa
GET ready to dance to the music — Royal Music that is — in today’s feature Starter Allowance race on Day 7 of the Arima Race Club season at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, today. This American-bred colt has recently found the winning thread, and with Emile Ramsammy again in the irons, will take some pegging back in the 1750 metres event with a purse of $23,000. But it will not be an open and shut case for Rebel Music and Ramsammy, who has extended his stay until the Easter Meeting on Monday March 21. The credentials of Gray Warrior, Soul Asylum, Sun Splash and Royal Miss must be respected.
Both Sun Splash and Royal Miss have been galloping with some authority and with their light weight must be reckoned with. Apart from these, there’s Dottie’s Way who has been dropped in class and is a big danger to the best. The day’s opener timed for 12.25 pm promises to be a scorcher. But turfites must be disappointed in not being able to see Fearless Angel take his place among the six-horse field. The Glenn Mendez-trained colt who has been burning up the track at gallops had a shoeing accident and was forced to be scratched. But with speedsters Sparklin Halo, Premier Attraction and newcomers Halo Gorgeous and Seedeeourr holding the engagement, it should be a mouth-watering opening race over 1100 metres on the turf course.
Turfites will be looking to see how much Baby Mass has improved when the speedy Cyril “Greypatch” Arneaud-trained filly takes on seven other maiden three-year-olds over 1350 metres in the day’s top supporting race. There is a whisper out for Jamaican-bred Border Dispute who makes his debut to local racing, and the same can be said of Amigo Mio who will be partnered by Ramsammy, the first runner saddled by ARC president Gerard Ferreira as a trainer. The one to be on, however, appears to be the fast improving Flying The Flag from champion trainer John O’Brien’s barn.
