Schoolboy shines for PowerGen

CERAMIC Merry Boys, PowerGen Sports, Alescon Comet and Tile It Central Sports secured victories yesterday to advance to the Carib Sunday League semi-finals. Merry Boys recorded a pulsating eight-run win over W-Connection Wanderers in their quarter-final encounter at Gilbert Park, California, while joint-defending champions Alescon Comet romped to a nail-biting three-wicket win over FCB Clarke Road at Wilson Road in Penal. NCL Division Two club Mayo Valley Boys made Central Sports sweat it out until the final over before they eased home to a two-wicket victory with only four balls to spare at Presentation College, Chaguanas.

However, the biggest margin of victory was recorded by PowerGen Sports who sealed an exciting 41-run win over Queen’s Park at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain. And it was Barrackpore Senior Comprehensive schoolboy captain Jason Mohammed who stole the spotlight and entered his name in the record books with the first domestic limited-overs century at the NCC. He  blasted the Parkites bowlers which included former West Indies pacer Vasbert Drakes for two sixes and eight fours in his match-winning 116 off 159 balls out of 195 in 49.2 overs. It was no wonder that he earned the “Man-of-the-Match” award after the Power Boys bowled out QPCC for 144 in 48.4 overs.
