Mangalie sparks Comet to 241

ALL ROUNDER Rajendra Mangalie continued his impressive form, smashing seven sixes and two fours off 27 balls in a hurricane unbeaten 64 runs for Alescon Comet. The Charlieville, Chaguanas team totalled 241 for five wickets off their allotted 30 overs in their Carib Shield semi-final against Queen’s Park at Gilbert Park, California yesterday.

And PowerGen got a 129-run opening stand between Ahmed Mohammed (80) and Gibran Mohammed (48) on their way to scoring 213 for nine wickets off their 30 overs. This was against defending champion W Connection Wanderers in the other semi-final at Inshan Ali Park, Preysal. Mangalie struck three sixes in one over off spinner Phillip Brown and repeated the feat off Shakeel Ali.

Opening batsman Chris Magram gave Comet the ideal start, hitting two sixes and four fours  in his 34 off 27 balls. And partner Imran Khan who made 38 including six fours saw their team to an opening stand of 70. Guyanese Travis Dowlin hit one six and three fours in his 37, while veteran  Suruj Ragoonath contributed 38. The Parkites will begin their run-chase today with hopes resting on Jamaican-born Ricardo Powell and Dwayne Bravo. PowerGen’s innings suffered with the run out of three batsmen David Williams, Vishal Arjune and Farrell Jugmohan, after reaching 74 for no wickets in the first 10 overs.
