Teachers not doing their jobs
THE EDITOR: I am writing on behalf of a concerned parent. Her child is a student of Grant’s Memorial Presbyterian School in San Fernando. A teacher is usually absent from class at least one day per week. Although the school principal and the Education Ministry are notified, nothing is done. A petitionis in the process of being signed for the removal of the non-functioning teacher. Union officials at TTUTA are to take note of this since they are set to defend the interests of those who provide an income for them in the form of union dues.
Teaching is more than just a job or a work (wuk)! It is a calling as other honourable professions and the immediate past president of TTUTA had encouraged teachers to protest for increased salaries at a time when some are seen as non-performers. This is coupled with another case where a school teacher merely signs the attendance register in school and goes into private practice as a legal practitioner.
