Well done Dr Moonilal

THE EDITOR: Please permit me space in your newspaper to express deep congratulations to Oropouche Member of Parliament Dr Roodal Moonilal for bringing to the national attention the poverty of persons in the Debe area. I saw on IETV and in the press several pictures of the destitution and lack of water in the Debe area. It is unbelievable that this is Trinidad with record prices for oil and gas. Imagine with oil priced at US$57 per barrel, people don’t have water to drink? Moonilal highlighted the situation of a woman and six children who live in an eight by eight shack without water, lights and toilet facilities.

The children appeared to be drinking from a bucket of dirt water. This image is very disturbing, and Dr Moonilal is right to question the relevance and integrity of Vision 2020. It is hoped that WASA, TTEC and other Government providers will assist Moonilal to bring relief to his people in Oropouche. Dr Moonilal must be assisted to ameliorate the poverty in neglected parts of Trinidad. He is driven by a deep need to work on behalf of the — oppressed and poverty stricken, maybe it is his trade union roots, but keep up the struggle Dr Moonilal victory will come!
