Fredericks (108) conquers TT bowlers

NORWAYNE FREDERICKS conquered the Trinidad and Tobago bowlers, hitting  a brilliant 108 to steered Guyana to 284 for six wickets on the opening day of their CLICO West Indies Under-15 Development two-day match at Gilbert Park, California, yesterday. Fredericks became the first player to score a century against TT in this year’s series, and he got stout support from Dillon Heyliger who made an attractive 64.

Fredericks and Heyliger featured in an enterprising 156-run second wicket partnership after Guyana’s Jitendra Sookdeo was bowled by medium pacer Marlon Briceno for six and the score at 23 for one. The Fredericks-Heyliger tandem batted together for 134 minutes before Adrian Barath broke the partnership, bowling Heyliger who struck seven fours off 133 balls. But Fredericks pushed on to the coveted triple-figures which included 18  boundaries off 172 balls. He was at the crease for 232 minutes before he was caught off Marlon Briceno who finished with two wickets for 51 runs. TT skipper Kjorn Ottley also got two wickets for 42 runs. Another Guyanese batsman Leon Williams fell one run short of his 50. The match concludes today.

Meanwhile, Windward Islands suffered a shock one-run defeat to Jamaica in a thrilling CLICO West Indies Under-15 fourth round limited-overs match at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva,  yesterday. The defeat sustained by Windwards left their final round match against Trinidad and Tobago on Friday as the virtual decider of the 2005 championships. Jamaica owe their success to a superb unbeaten 113 by Courtney Allen and Adrian Morris who got 48 for their team to total 207 for three wickets. And later, Windwards were bowled out for 206 off 44.4 overs.
