Golf trip for winner of Cotton Tree series
A TRIP for two and a weekend of golf at the Royal St Kitts’ Golf Club are among the prizes on offer at the second annual Cotton Tree Foundation Charity Golf Tournament, which tees off at St Andrew’s Golf Course, Moka, Maraval, on Wednesday. The event, which was launched last Tuesday at President’s House, St Ann’s, will get underway from 9 am and end at 4 pm, when President George Maxwell Richards, patron of the Cotton Tree Foundation, will participate in the prize-giving and charity auction.
A maximum of 50 teams of two will compete in Wednesday’s event, under a two-ball better-ball format. Defending champ Annan Rajpaulsingh will be vying for the St Kitts’ trip, having been paired with England vice-captain and opening batsman Marcus Trescothick. But the touring South African cricketers, as well as the West Indies squad, are expected to compete. Brian Lara and former WI captain Sir Vivian Richards and Desmond Haynes are due to take to the greens on Wednesday. President Richards, delivering the feature address at Tuesday’s function, spoke about the Foundation’s programmes in the areas of early childhood care and education, family literacy and empowerment, organic gardening and information communication technology.
The President noted: “I believe that the Foundation can provide blueprints for community development that may be replicated elsewhere in the country. “It is with this in mind that I make an appeal to all those who are still outside of the Cotton Tree family, as it were, to help, by way of financial resources most certainly, as well as voluntary service as often as you possibly can,” he added. He also expressed his gratitude for the work done by corporate sponsors Petrotrin, National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB), First Citizens Bank (FCB), British Gas, bpTT and Hand Arnold.
