Why waste money on Bakr retrial?

THE EDITOR: I am writing to you as a very puzzled and concerned citizen in connection with the retrial of Abu Bakr. How do we expect to have a fair and impartial trial if Mr Bakr is allowed to enter the court each day surrounded by an entourage of body guards and supporters, who by their presence terrorise the general public and the jurors in particular. The names and addresses of the jurors are known to all as it is noted at jury selection. What person knowing this will be comfortable in giving a verdict other than an acquittal.

This man by his own admission has been associated with the criminal element and has made a complete mockery by his arrogance and disrespect of our Judicial system. Why therefore waste millions of dollars again of tax payers’ money when it is quite evident that because of his connections he will never be convicted. Why also do all the law abiding citizens of Trinidad and Tobago stay quiet and accept the farce that is taking place. Rise up everyone and demand that the elected Government begin to govern and cut out their petty nonsense, ie the storm in a teacup and all the other smoke screens and rubbish and really get down to work. Take the bull by the horns and become leaders.
