Fire chief owes explanation

THE EDITOR: The Chief of Fire Services must be honest and let the people of TT know how long ago he requested the appliances and equipment he required and the problems with the two salt water systems that are there for firefighting purposes. He should also tell the population why there was no command post, no use of breathing apparatus sets to use of the auxiliary fire service during firefighting operations.

If our Government had a senior officer from the British Fire Service investigate the cause of the fire and the fire management used, some senior officers’ heads would roll. Notwithstanding, the above, I say again that a Fire Services Board should supervise and be the “watch dog” of the Fire Services for the people. This board I feel should be comprised of former chief fire officers and former heads of the Protective Services.
