Nine-race Day 11 card on Saturday

TURFITES will have a nine-race programme on which to wager on Saturday, when racing resumes for the Arima Race Club Day 11 at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, after a one-week break. But the feature Starter Allowance over 1100 metres promises to be a thriller. Despite the small field of just six horses, The winner will be difficult to pick. Holding the engagement are speedsters Java Takeover and Fortunate Flag, both winners of their last start, Royal Dame, Celebrity Jet, Life In The Sky and Sparklin Halo. Much has been said of Jamaican-bred three-year-ol Border Dispute, and this one will be on show in the day’s finale over 1200 metres when he meets the improving St Mike and Cuatro Tempo, the full brother of last year’s Royal Oak Derby winner Mucho Tempo.

Another race which promises many thrills is the claimer over 1100 metres on the turf course in which noted sprinters Seattle Sue, just back from a short stint in neighbouring Barbados, Salsa Moves, Sunday Jewel, The Chairman and Travel Agent are entered. Meanwhile, Royal Dame flashed her speed over 600 metres in the good time of 35 seconds flat, while 2Sharp continued to show good form at gallops timed in 36.2 seconds for a similar trip. And Fortunate Flag showed he would not be easily beaten with a good gallop over the 600 metres trip in 38.3 seconds. Old man Mandela is in fine shape as he showed in a gallop over 400 metres in 25.1 seconds, but he was outshone by the speed of Sweet N’ Beautiful, galloping solo to clock 24.4 seconds over a similar trip. Another to zip along the Santa Rosa track was Run Manie Run who clocked 25.3 seconds for the 400 metres gallop.
