PowerGen wins Carib Sunday League
A BRILLIANT century by Ahmed Mohammed (106) enabled PowerGen Sports Club to become sole winners of the 2005 Carib Sunday League Trophy. The “Power Boy”’ from Penal romped to an exciting 24-run victory over Ceramic MerryBoys in the day-night final contested at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre, on Friday. Paced by Mohammed’s century, PowerGen totalled 267 for seven wickets off their allotted 50 overs, and in reply MerryBoys were bowled out for 243 in 47.2 overs.
Mohammed and his opening partner Gibran Mohammed (35) laid the foundation for their team’s victory with a 98-run partnership. And they got solid contributions from Denzil James 28 and Sherwin Ganga 30 not out. Mohammed struck one six, one five and 11 fours in his match-winning innings. TT all-rounder Richard Kelly was reduced to bowling off-spin by a groin injury, but emerged as MerryBoys chief wicket-taker with four wickets for 23 runs from seven overs.
