Not for the Party — for the people
THE EDITOR: I am relieved to see that politics is still being practised by those who have a shred of integrity left and could see the damage that our so-called leaders are inflicting on our society. Ms Lucky you took a brave stance, not out of synch with your character, and I hope that those on both sides of the political fence can see that it takes a lot to stand up for what you believe in regardless of what you are told to do.
What politicians feel (and we have given them that right) is that they have a monopoly on the people and when they invoke the tribalism of race in politics that rouses our primitive instinct to protect what we think is ours then they feel they can do what they feel with their power and the moment they are seen to be doing wrong they remind us that only their people can see about them. We are all too familiar with the divide and conquer element which is thriving in our society shamelessly and it is about time we stop it and revert its course should it be too late.
No one should feel comfortable thinking that when we elect one person to represent us that they are bound by the party. The people elected you to represent them not the party. We have to get our voting for the party and vote for the people. Gillian I voted for you in the last election and I will vote for you again. It does not matter that the PNM may gain from this, what is important is that I am not enslaved to the inane drudgery that passes for politics. Now for the other side to show that someone has the balls to stand up to this sham of a government and let them know the utter rubbish they are doing. And in the end all will be good.
