Connection hunt third win
W CONNECTION will be vying for their third successive win in the 2005 T&T Pro League season when they square off against Caledonia AIA/Fire in the first match of a double-header at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima today. Connection defeated 2004 champs North East Stars 4-0 in the season opener and CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh 2-1 last Saturday, while Fire drew their only contest to date, 0-0 against Jabloteh. Kick-off time is 5 pm while, two hours later, Defence Force will oppose North East.
The Teteron lads are yet to play a game this season as their encounter against United Petrotrin were postponed on Saturday while North East eked out a 4-3 win against Tobago United four days ago. Today’s other match-up will feature Petrotrin versus Tobago at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Meanwhile, the Under-16 and Under-18 Divisions kicked off on Saturday. At the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, Defence Force edged United Petrotrin 2-1 in an Under-16 clash, with Brent Abraham being the hero for the Army/Coast Guard combination, scoring in the sixth and 50th minutes.
Akil Hamlet was the lone goal-getter for Petrotrin, in the 33rd minute. Jabloteh also earned a win and a draw against W Connection at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva. In the Under-16s, Angelo Jack and national Under-17 midfielder Qian Grovesnor were on target as Jabloteh whipped the ‘Savonetta Boys’ 2-0 while the Under-18 encounter between both teams ended in a 2-2 draw. Striker Matthew Bartholomew put Connection ahead in the 29th minute while TT Under-17 team-mate Silas Spann doubled the advantage in the 47th. But Jabloteh responded with goals from Jonathan Romain (54th) and national Under-17 playmaker Shastri Spencer (85th) to earn a share of the points. The scheduled fixtures between North East Stars and Tobago United, at the Sangre Grande Recreation Ground, were cancelled.
