Connection shut out Caledonia 3-0
W CONNECTION kept up their unbeaten run in the T&T Pro League with a 3-0 shut out of Caledonia AIA/Fire at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, yesterday. The Caledonia men held off the goal-hungry Connection attackers led by Andre Toussaint and Gefferson Goulart for the entire first half. And just when it appeared they had completely frustrated their opponents, came the opening goal of the match. From a swift counter-attack, Toussaint found a streaking David Atiba Charles inside the penalty area on the right, and he fired a low shot past goalkeeper Michael Woods in the 57th minute.
The second goal was not long in coming, however, as Connection capitalised on a defensive lapse. Goulart found Kendall Davis racing into the penalty area and his shot deflected off the head of Earl Jean into the net past a bewildered Woods. Caledonia launched a few desperate attacks of their own in an effort to pull a goal back. But it was Connection to score their third, again from a counter-attack when Toussaint flashed down the right wing and centred for Davis to cheekily back-heel the ball into the net. Victory was the third for Connection in as many games, and they take a clear lead at the top of the standings.
