Queen’s Park take Carib Reserve League Trophy
QUEEN’S Park Cricket Club (QPCC) retained the Carib Reserve League trophy when they defeated arch rivals W-Connection Wanderers by 28 runs in the final at Gilbert Park last Saturday. The Parkites owe their success to the solid batting of Darron Cruikshank who was their main run-getter with 65 which also earned him the Man of the Match award. TT national youth player Justin Guillen scored a hurricane 38 which included a huge six and five boundaries while Shastri Samaroo contributed 29 as the Parkites rattled up 214 all out in 39.4 overs.
Leftarmers’ Darren Deonarine and Shakeel Ali did the damage for the Parkites when they bowled out the home team for 186 with three balls to spare. Deonarine bagged three wickets for 24 while Ali snapped up three for 23. Vedesh Maharaj’s blistering 49, containing three sixes and three fours could not stop the Wanderers’ slide to defeat. Timothy Surujbally chipped in with 36. QPCC retained the Carib Reserve League Trophy and collected the first prize of $5,000 from Carib Brewery promotions officer Keisha Balroop. She also presented Cruikshank with his Man of the Match and Best Batsman awards. Teammate Darren Deonarine collected the Best Bowler award. Wanderers had to settle for the runner-up prize of $2,500.
