$.6M Angostura Regatta launched
THE ANGOSTURA Tobago Sail Week, which will cost in excess of $600,000, will be staged from May 8-13 at Store Bay, in the sister isle Tobago. The 23rd annual event was launched at the House of Angostura, Laventille yesterday and Kevin Kenny, Chairman of Regatta Promoters Limited and Executive Manager of Angostura Limited, noted that the official sponsor Angostura contributes approximately one-third of the cost while a number of sponsors assist in offsetting the rest.
Among the sponsors for the week-long event are Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Department of Tourism, Hilton Tobago, DHL Worldwide Express, Pepsi, CLICO, TIDCO, Carib, Lucozade, Water One, Peter Gremli Car Rental Services and FT Farfan. Also assisting in the Sail Week are Power Boats, Crown Point Beach Hotel, Johnston’s Apartments, Store Bay Holiday Resort, Sherwood Park Apartments and Golden Caribbean. And the sponsors will be pleased to know that the theme for the Sail Week is ‘the Spirit of Racing’, which is symbolic of the high standard of the event.
The 2005 regatta is expected to attract over 50 yachts that will compete in five categories — Racing, Cruiser-Racer, Cruising, Charter and Comfort Cruising. Defending Racing Class winner Storm, a locally-built Reichel Pugh 43 yacht, will be among the vessels on show, as well as Barbadian boat Jump Up and top local competitors Brut Force, Enzyme, Bacchanal Woman and Lucozade High Tension (formerly Tenshun).
