Go Gillian, go!

THE EDITOR: We broke new ground when two women speaking, they believed, for their large internationally known groups, were deemed by Trinidad society to have put their feet into their mouths. Not a letter of concern or condemnation came from Tobago, so I’m leaving them out of this comment. Then came another woman, who appended her signature to a document, and all hell broke loose. Suddenly, the pundits are commenting on morality, personal, public, political and every other thing they could come up with.

The woman got out of her seat and walked out of a building, then went back in, later she moved from her accustomed seat, and took another. Pictures and comments erupted all over the place. It’s been the talk of the town, the island, for two weeks. So women, we could make a difference, just moving a seat or two; just signing a principled document; and we begin to call into question an irascible man’s political hegemony; we hear people say, enough is enough. The “usual ways of doing business” is in for some changes. For the lady who caused the issue of morality in politics to become the topic of so many columnists, I have only three words: Go Gillian, Go!
