Connection stretch Pro League lead

STRIKER Andre Toussaint netted a pair as W Connection stretched their lead in the 2005 T&T Pro League to seven points, following yesterday’s 4-1 win over United Petrotrin at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. And Defence Force remained in second spot after they were held to a 1-1 draw by CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. Meanwhile, one game will be played today, with Tobago United hosting Caledonia AIA/Fire at Shaw Park, Scarborough, from 6 pm. At Marabella, Toussaint opened the scoring for Connection in the 12th minute while, in the 37th, the dreadlocked striker got his second via the penalty spot.

Captain Earl Jean (70th) and Dwight Scott (74th) put Connection 4-0 up before defender Larry McDonald’s 90th minute penalty proved to be Petrotrin’s consolation effort on the scoresheet. Trinidad and Tobago striker Nigel ‘Croc’ Pierre proved to be the hero for Jabloteh, netting a 12th minute equaliser after ex-national striker Devon Jorsling had put the Army/Coast Guard combination in front after three minutes. In related news, former England defender Terry Fenwick returned to Trinidad on Friday for his second stint as head coach of San Juan Jabloteh. Fenwick, who guided Jabloteh to back-to-back League crowns in 2001 and 2002, will replace Michael Grayson who has been demoted to an assistant alongside player/coach Angus Eve.

The approachable Fenwick revealed that he received a phone call from club owner Jerry Hospedales on Wednesday and immediately replied in the affirmative to resume duties with the team. After the 2002 League season, Fenwick had a failed stint with Northampton and spent the past year working with the Aston Villa youth teams. Stating that he will be holding his first training session tomorrow, Fen-wick stressed: “it’s important for me to see the team before we play (on Tuesday). “There are a number of players who were (with Jabloteh) when I was here and I’ll like to have a look at them, as well as the newer ones,” he added.
