Connection only winners in Carib cricket

W CONNECTION Wanderers were the only team to score an outright victory when `fifth round action in this year’s Carib National Cricket League concluded yesterday. The Wanderers men completed an emphatic innings and 84 runs victory over CLICO Preysal at Gilbert Park, California, Central Trinidad. Sanjeev Gooljar who took four first innings wickets for 56 runs, bowled Wanderers to victory taking five wickets for 44 runs in the Preysal second innings despite a good knock of 42 from Shazam Babwah, for match figures of nine for 100 runs.

All the other games resulted in draws. Facing a massive 406 for six wickets declared compiled by Alescon Comet at Pierre Road, MerryBoys made to follow-on after a first innings 280, held on to score 119 for three wickets in their second innings with Leron Lezama hitting 46. In the Comets innings, ex-West Indies and Trinidad and Tobago opening batsman Suruj Ragoonath hit a brilliant unbeaten 103. At Syne Village, Tile It Central Sports escaped with a draw against Powergen. Central scored 235 in their first innings, and after PowerGen replied with 361 for seven wicket with Rishi Bachan scoring 144, the Central men scrambled to 107 for six wickets. At the Oval, Queen’s Park also had to settle for a draw with FCB Clarke Road United. Replying to the Parkites first innings 232, Clarke Road were bowled out for 171 with Sean Seeloch scoring 51 and Homchand Pooran 59.
