Work together to eradicate crime
THE EDITOR: Allow me to comment on the evening television news of April 21, 2005 news headlines, “High drama” on the Brian Lara Promenade.” A midday shooting which left one man dead and one woman injured and hospitalised. Angry onlookers and incensed citizens were all caught up in the melee, how sad! So even in the heart of downtown no one is safe. The incident happened mere yards away from a police post. Already four months of the year the murder rate has reached 103. How frightening, how alarming! As the average citizen, how do we respond to such news?
As a citizen I feel helpless. How can I as a citizen respond? I am outraged, saddened and grieved by the rise of criminal activity which has crippled the nation’s psyche. The situation is out of control. What are the relevant authorities doing to make our nation a safer place? Do our citizens feel safe anymore? I am calling on the Commissioner of Police, the Minister of National Security, NGOs, private citizens, all must come together to help eradicate this “monster” called crime. Let us all as citizens work together, let us become one another’s keepers. God bless our nation!
